Antsy

I sit for my day job.

Well, I do more than sit, but there is no other humanly way possible to do my job if I don’t sit – at least as far as I can tell.

I work at my desk…typing…transcribing…if you want to get all technical about it.

Have you read stories about those health-conscious offices that have computer stations attached to treadmills so you can walk while you work?  I think that would be so awesome!

The difference between typing and transcribing is that transcribing, at least in my world, involves the use of a foot pedal.  Thus, I only have one lower extremity (guess what type of transcribing I do) with which to propel myself.

I guess that means I’d have to hop.  While I consider myself relatively coordinated, hopping on one foot while utilizing a foot pedal with the other far exceeds my talent level.

So, until somebody comes up with a solution for my problem…I sit, sometimes many hours a day.

So back to being antsy…I spent well over the first half of my life living in the west – southern California, the Pacific northwest, and most of my time in the desert southwest – where it’s sunny – every day – and warm – 9+ months out of the year.

For the past decade and a half, I have called the midwest home – the snowy, cold, unpredictable-weather midwest.  Don’t get me wrong – snow is beautiful…

for about a minute, and then it’s just cold.  I know not everybody agrees with me, but this is my post, so I can say whatever I want, right?

So back to my job…are you still following me?

I work at home…for which I am very grateful.  But, oh the temptation once spring arrives to ditch my keyboard and head outdoors to soak in the sun.  It’s not exactly warm, and it’s pretty rainy these days, but the grass is green, the daffodils are displaying their brilliance, and the rich black soil in the gardening is beckoning me.

So, I’m antsy.  Now what?

Ya gotta start somewhere…

Although I’ve given up many of my perfectionistic ways to save my sanity…a few of them linger…

Like the need to start at the very beginning…when telling a story….when cleaning my house top to bottom.  Ok, not so much the house cleaning…not the top to bottom thing anyway…I’m in survival mode most days in that department.

IF…I waited until I could start at the beginning….(A) It would take my whole life to get to this point in the story of my life…(B) I would have to cease living my current life to share the narrative of my past…

Either way…that won’t work.

I’m going to stretch myself and just jump right in the middle – the HERE and NOW.

Back story to follow at a later date….

We’re jumping into the foster care system, and we’re so excited!!!  Not excited in a blind, naive sort of way, but excited in a “God is orchestrating our lives and leading us in a new direction” sort of way.

Will it be hard?  YES!

Will it be amazing?  YES!

Will God use every circumstance to teach us and grow us?  YES!

Does that mean all puppy dogs and rainbows and Kodak moments?  Ummm…not so much…

Genesis 1:1 starts out, “In the beginning, God…” and that is indeed the beginning of our narrative as well – “In the beginning, God.”  And I can testify from many, many past experiences, that when the story starts out with “In the beginning, God…” whatever comes after that is rich and full and “covered over” by Him.

So welcome to our journey!

What experiences have you had with foster care/adoption?  Please share!  We’re all in this together!
